Scotland is renowned around the world as the Home of Golf. It is the birthplace of the game and to this day remains its spiritual home. It is also a modern, dynamic and world-class golf events and tourism destination welcoming hundreds of thousands of golfers every year and regularly playing host to the biggest tournaments in the world.
The golf industry in Scotland is worth more than £1 billion annually to the Scottish economy, of which golf events and golf tourism plays a major role.
Through activity led by VisitScotland and support by organisations including Scottish Development International and Scottish Golf, the Scottish Government is committed to continuing to support the growth of the game in this country. Scotland has also has demonstrated its commitment to promoting women’s golf through its long-term support of events such as the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open, the Ricoh Women’s British Open and the future staging of The 2019 Solheim Cup.
Dundonald Links was purchased by Loch Lomond Golf Club in early 2003 to provide its global Membership with a traditional links challenge.The Kyle Phillips-designed course was inspired by the timeless architecture of the great Ayrshire links courses of Royal Troon, Prestwick and Western Gailes, all connected by the historic rail line.
In its short history Dundonald has been chosen as the venue for a number of amateur and professional tournaments, including the first stage of the European Tour Qualifying School, and Senior Open Qualifying. More recently, the course has welcomed some of the world’s best female golfers for the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open in 2015 and 2016.
The arrival of The Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open in 2017 heralds a new chapter in Dundonald’s history. In recent years the Tour has taken this prestigious Championship to some iconic links courses across Scotland. Dundonald Links is the latest to host what is always a very strong field focussed on winning one of the European Tour’s flagship events. Alongside the men’s competition, and following previous successes, the course will once again play proud host to the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open.
The course is GEO Certified™, a symbol of great golf environments worldwide, and has received a number of environmental accolades including ‘UK Environmental Golf Course of the Year 2014’ and ‘Overall Winner in the International Association of Golf Tour Operators’ (IAGTO) Sustainability Awards 2015’.

Ladies European Tour
The Ladies European Tour (LET) is Europe’s leading women’s professional golf tour and formed as the WPGA in 1978. Over the last 36 years, the tour has developed into a truly international organisation and in 2015 will hold more than 20 tournaments in 17 different countries worldwide. The 12-month golfing odyssey hit the road in February with the RACV Ladies Masters 2015 and will travel across four continents before the season comes to a thrilling climax with the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters in the UAE in December. With members from over 30 different countries, the Tour has a global flavour. With the Olympics on the horizon, the Tour has taken on special significance for players from a multitude of different countries who aim to qualify when golf returns to the programme in 2016 after a 104-year absence.
The LPGA is the world’s leading professional golf organization for women. Founded in 1950, the association celebrates a diverse and storied membership with more than 2,300 members representing 30 different countries.
